In the countryside the knightly gentry were victorious in their battles with the territorial lordship for power and influence. Through a persistent agricultural boom, particularly in relation to grain-growing, the landed gentry was motivated to extend its farms, which originally only had a few hides, and to turn its hand to agriculture.
