The globe comes from the Amsterdam workshop of Guiljemus Janßonius (1771-1638). It was one of the first editions of the large representative globes from the Blaeu publishing company and is thus a rarity. The globe is dedicated to Christian IV. (1577-1648), King of Denmark and the oldest grandson of Duke Ulrich of Mecklenburg-Güstrow, who followed Frederick II. onto the Danish throne.

The celestial globe that originally belonged to the globe has been in the mathematics and physics salon of the Dresden State Art Collections since the 1950s.
