Between 1880 and 1930 biological wall charts in the area of zoology were important didactic means for forming opinions and concepts, representing reality, visually presenting connections and illustrating abstract content.

As per the legal regulations in Mecklenburg-Schwerin from 1914 “natural history teaching should train the skills of observation, comparison and conclusion, make children familiar with their native natural world, demonstrate individual animals and individual plants […] in the balance of nature, show the construction […] of the human body and develop an understanding of the most striking physical phenomena of daily life.”
