Cork relief of Stettin Gate in Pyritz

The decorative cork carving is likely the work of Otto Lilienthal's mother, née Caroline Pohle. The family chronicle traces her artistic versatility. It is signed and dated 'the 6th of May 59. J. C. Pohle.' It shows a realistic impression of the gate that was raised to the ground during the Second World War. The piece is believed to be a gift by Caroline Lilienthal to her half brother Julius Pohle. The dating probably indicates the occasion of its handover, and less the time of its production.

The cork relief remained in the possession of Lilienthal's descendants until it was donated to the museum.
