Cannon

  • bronze, Strelitz, around 1660, length: 115 cm

The coat of arms of the Mecklenburg sovereigns with the inscription: “V(on) G(ottes) G(naden) ADOLF FRIEDRICH. HERZOG. ZV. MECKLENBURG.” not only shows the client but probably also the owner of this cannon. Due to the lack of a dynastic reference in the inscription it is unclear whether it relates to the Schwerin Duke Adolf Frederick I. (1588-1658) or his youngest son Adolf Frederick II. (1658-1708), who became the first Duke of Mecklenburg-Strelitz in 1701.

The cannon was ultimately housed in Neustrelitz Palace and was privately owned from the end of the Second World War. It was moved to Burg Stargard Museum in 2005.
