The air defence rocket with liquid propellant, developed at the Peenemünde Army Research Centre at the start of 1943, is based on the aerodynamic findings for the A4 due to time constraints.

As of 1944, around 40 test flights are carried out. The rocket is to be used to support anti-aircraft batteries against high-flying bombers up to a distance of 48 km. After the war, they form the basis for the development of the first American and Soviet anti-aircraft missiles.
