“Kaltschale” (cold sweet soup) tin bowl

tin, 1805, diameter: 40 cm

“Kollschal” was the name of a popular summer drink. The cold sweet soup with beer is the most well-known. It was made from sweetened beer and dried bread. It could also be made from brandy, butter milk, eggs or honey and wine. The possibilities were endless. The large diameter and flat rim of the tin bowls were striking, and the rim often bore the name of the owner and date of the wedding. This expensive tin object could mainly be found at the time in farmhouses in Rehna and Schönberg.
