Oil lamp (anthropomorphic container)
fired clay, 14th/15th century, height: 12.5 cm
The oil lamp with an anthropomorphic shape is remarkably richly decorated. The lamp figure has an over-sized erect penis (phallus) as a symbol of male fertility. The spout originally contained the filament. The lamp comes from a pottery workshop in the centre of Neubrandenburg.
