The muzzle loader pistol was bought in England in 1821 (hallmarked D 17). In 1841 the very simple model was converted from a flintlock into a modern percussion lock.

The weapon was used until 1851 in the Ludwigslust dragoon regiment. It was then withdrawn from service.
