Enthroned Mary with Christ Child
northern Germany, painted oak wood, around 1400, height: 47 cm
The image of Mary mirrors in free form, and on a somewhat smaller scale, an image of the Mother of God created for the convent around 1370. The relic plinth was decorated with the chant to Mary “salve regina” (Hail, Queen). The image of Mary was particularly revered by the nuns of the convent.
